To Teach: In More Ways Than One
You took me throughout history,
without opening a page.
You made the mystery
of past events easy to engage,
even if your students complained.
You came to work everyday
and taught me that I have something important to say.
That was four years ago,
and now our paths cross
again. At first I was timid to show
you my thoughts because I saw you as a boss.
Now I speak freely, we communicate
easily. You see me as more than just a student
who once filled a chair. We can collaborate
on ideas to help future generations to care.
I’ve gained knowledge and perspective
on what it’s like to be an effective
educator, especially in a world that isn’t very grateful.
So I just want to say how thankful
I am that you took the time,
without asking for a dime,
to show me how a true educator
does all he or she can to cater
to the needs of every child,
even if it’s just to help them smile.
