Teacher
If I ever become a teacher
I want to teach my students more than what's in the text book
I want to show them the wild wonders of the world
I want to teach them that this is a dark place
And it will punch you in the face
Only to kick you in the shins
When you regain composure
But don't worry
There are good things
There is the pitter patter of rain against your window
Bringing life and washing that pain away
I will teach them like they are musicians, scholars, and artists
Because they are musicians, scholars, and artists
But for now they will hold an innocent wonder in their little hands
They will try to catch everything the world throws at them
Then there will come a time when I will teach them to let that innocence go like leaves in the wind
And I will teach them not to go after it
I want to teach them that this world is a crayon box
The people are all different colors and shades
And you must not ever forget to look past that
And you must not ever forget to appreciate it
I will teach them that people, they come in all shapes and sizes
They come in all sorts of layers
And sometimes even after all that peeling
you still won't understand them
But that's okay because some things are meant to be hidden
And some things must be shouted from the rooftops
Until the echo follows you in your bedroom
I will teach them to share
To give and give and give
And maybe then they be will ready to take
Because to take can be to hurt
But to take can be just as important as giving if you do it right
I will teach them everything I have learned
And everything that I will learn
Because I still have so much to learn
And when I stand in front of a classroom
They will be wide eyed and worried
So all I will ask of them is patience, and a listening ear
And I will promise to do the same
