The A Team

They told her to wear her heart on her sleeve, but she got rid of all her shirts.

She walked around naked in the skin she slept in and began to advert.

Dogs stared at her with hungry eyes as cats shook their heads in disgust.

No one looked past her blasphemous acts, they only saw a girl full of lust.

She really did try to knit a sweater to show who was to blame.

But they ripped her seams, told her “In your dreams” because of her poor name

So she sold her love though she received none, and made a living off her thoughts.

For 5 minutes she felt alive and forgot everything she was never taught.

And another man with knives for hands bruised her with hickeys she mistook for love.

But the morning came and she was cold again, the fabric underneath was rough.

So she walked around for the day not knowing what to say to those who looked like her,

as she watched the A Team call men baby and ladies call them sir.

And they all wandered looking for a daughter who had a father just like their own.

They thought of their mother, hated their brothers, and echoed their sisters’ bones.
