The Tears That Streamed Down Her Face

She sits there crying. She told us he was dying. Little did I know, he would be my father no longer. Tears streamed down her face. Her mind was filled with thoughts that raced. She couldn't see her children; no life without him. The days grew shorter, until a day in December she was called for something important. She left her children at the neighbor's, no reassurance could save her. The oldest of the two, knew exactly of what to come. "No more fun," she told the youngest. "Its not the first time we have done this." "Daddy is sick," she told the five year old, but the youngest looked into her sister's eyes, not understanding what she was being told. Mommy came home with eyes swollen, and heart stolen. She looked at her children, and thought this was life rewarded. "Daddy is gone, but mother is not. My responsibility is here. There is not a lot I can offer or to be bought. Just love and the safety of a home and a mother." Years later the two are grown up, the youngest lives without much memory of a father, while the oldest is left with enough. Remorse is felt every day, but kept under way, watching others have a father and play, is hard to experience in a way. But we grew up fine. Even without a father of mine. You don't need a perfect family to work, just the love and the support. Thank you mother, for not leaving us in the rain. You protected us, you loved us, you kept us sane. We wouldn't have grown up the same if we had a father, too. But your love was all we needed to get us through. Thank you for loving us, I love you.
