Tears of the Trees

Trees are crying,

Shedding tears passed down from the sky.

Their tears mix with my own

For we both grieve.

Birds stop their singing,

Wind becomes a whisper.

Only silence remains.

The Earth mourns.

Weeds seep through the freshly laid dirt,

Time fades the small name etched into the granite.

A short name for a short life at the head of a short coffin.

The willows weep, the Birches bawl.

Rain washes pain and makes the world clean.

But the sky refuses,

The only water

Is the tears of the trees.
