Teary-Eyed Loser

My Dearest, Scott,

I knew your deepest secrets before you told them to me

Your eyes told me everything you wouldn't.

I traced every detail of your face a hundred times over

99 was not enough.

I held you in my arms and wept

A moment could have never been so perfect.

I wrote your name on my wrist

My heart doesn’t beat the same without you.

I wrote twenty love letters you might never read

Does this mark the twenty-first?

I snapped a picture of you while you slept

You looked best when you were at peace.

I told you to kiss me and I regretted it

You did exactly as I said, and

I was angry

Because I loved you so much it hurt.

"Do the stars even move? Do they ever cross?

Surely they have crossed for us?" I thought.

I could not have been more wrong

I was overcome by the waves of your hair

They fell like blankets over your forehead and onto mine.

I would have shouted in every hall of every building

The world would have rejoiced at my shouting

You waded in my arms

The warmest that will ever hold you

You wrote your own name on my heart

Because it washed off of my wrist

You read me one paragraph and I was in Love

But you were not with me

Your voice is the sweetest sound I have ever heard

I slept with my heart in your hands

I trusted you to protect it

You kissed me

I told you to

Afterwards

You told me you loved

It might have been true

Once.

Your “Teary-eyed Loser,”

David
