A Technological Testament
Everyone is inspired or motivated by unique concepts, facts, emotions, and a number of other variables. For me it’s simple, technology. Just imagine for a moment, you're stopped at a red light, think about how complex the algorithms must be that manage all the lights in a city. Processing the time of day, the day of the week, along with predicted traffic patterns for specific parts of the city, as well as 30-40 other lights' patterns and data, as to keep the traffic in a state of fluidity. In Boston for example, if the street navigation system were to be disabled for even five minutes can you imagine the chaos that would devour the streets? In twenty very short years computers and technology in general have taken control of our little blue marble we call Earth. We use technology in almost every aspect of our lives, and in most cases we no longer realize. How do you check the time? Phone? Watch? How do you get to work? I use an electric skateboard. What do you do when you get lost? Can we even get lost anymore with the introduction of portable interactive devices wirelessly connected to the internet at all times? Don't even get me started on the internet. We rely on these infrastructures not because we want to, but because we have to. I chose to enter the field of Technology for precisely this reason! I decided at a very young age, perhaps ten, that the future of humanity will now and always be technology. Our physical capabilities have been mapped, tried, and tested, but what about our intellectual capacity for imagination and creativity? Limitless.
I love the idea of technology, the idea that any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. I truly believe that, and by enhancing our grasp of technology, most recently through the studying of Quantum Dot Technology, we will one day be capable of feats that defy our own imagination. Just last year MIT and NASA partnered to build a revolutionary 3D Printer that is capable of printing anything from the most complicated medications, to a replacement part for the ship. This is possible through essentially restructuring a biological component by adding a combination of four basic compounds to create something new entirely. These new printers are designed for long distance space travel and only require four basic renewable resources. (Sunlight, Hydrogen, Oxygen, and Nitrogen) The whole idea is to reduce the physical space on the space craft designated for storage as to make more space available for other beneficial technology. I currently CoOp for MIT Lincoln Laboratories and have the privilege to work with the brilliant minds who envision this world of technological marvels every day.
To summarize what I'm saying here, technology may not benefit you in every aspect of your life, nothing really does, but if you simply take a moment to actually think about how a very specific technology operates or was designed to help a human, you'll realize its importance.
