Tecnological Addiction
In this new day and age,
more and more people find themselves addicted to technology
some call it a crisis, an epidemic
every day more people fall prey to it by buying their first smart phone or binge watching netflix for the first time
I myself had fallen prey to it along time ago
My ipad for me, is not just another gadget
It’s not even a crutch
It’s my life support machine
Without it I can barely function
The hard drive inside it is like a second brain for me
The schedule and calendar I keep on it keeps the thoughts in my head from turning into a jumbled jargon of corrupted code.
its data storage holds as much of my memory as it does its own
With everything ranging from notes from world history class three years ago that I forgot existed,
to moments of the last vacation I went on in the form of selfies with my family
its wifi accessibility allows me to not only connect to the internet, but to my friends as well
allowing me to express my thoughts and feelings to them with not only through words
but also through adorable emojis and gifs of cats doing stupid things
Beyond that, it allows me to cope
after scrolling through the vacation photos, cat pictures, and documents upon documents of notes I never bothered to delete long after I had no use for them saved on my drive
one comes to the very center of my heart
My deepest thoughts and emotions
and the passions that keep me alive and give reason for my heart to keep beating:
the pages of poetry I wrote between classes or on nights when I was alone
the artwork that I stayed up until three in the morning on a school night to finish because I just can’t stop working on it
the stories and fantasies that take over my dreams at night and day and refused to be confined to my mind alone
I have poured an emotional spectrum into it wider that the human eye can comprehend
And the electricity that runs through its circuits allows me to create a spark of life for myself
to disconnect myself from this machine permanently
would be pulling the plug on my humanity
