The Television is Broken

You know I heard what you were doing

I saw you headed towards the park

We traded looks like they were stories

and burned our books like they were bark

I know you watched me from the carport

You were ready for a fight

You shook like Krakatoa standing

under incandescent light

And when you leaned to whisper softly

Pale skin pink in winter air

My brain began to make some sense of

all the waves you pushed from there

Just then you realized you’re nothing

And that no ones ever been

You said “Goddamn we’re all so stupid, I hope we learn to love again”
