Tell Them

I plead to you

Before I visit the gates of heaven

Before the skin sheds from my bones

Speak of me as me

Nothing bad or unjust

Please tell them

I was educated

That even though the stairway to success had tacks turned on the pointy side, broken glass that will split your foot in half, and wood that would give you splinters, I still walked up them.

Tell them that I drowned in my tears from the hurt and pain I suffered when my mom died.

Speak of loyalty

Speak of success

Speak of bravery

Speak of the times when I stood my ground, when the devils actions tried to take me out.

How I threw all my struggles behind me and pushed through my trials and tribulations.

Tell them I was trustworthy

and was loyal to everyone I loved.

Say that I was loved.

Say that I drowned in a sea of greif when I felt like I couldn’t move on in life, but I kept going.

Speak of the hours I spent conquering my books for the quiz I had tommorow.

Tell them I got jobs that you didn’t think a  black woman could get.

Speak of love

Speak of change

Speak of ideas

Tell them I had a heart of stone.

Tell them Alexa Jordan made it.
