By Temperance

In temperance le us stop our pride

To us be our dismissing.

Let's choose the friend who'll be our guide

Not just the one who's pleasing.

For though we try in joy abide

There's always something missing.

For if we only try to find

That toy that we do cherish,

We see in loss of body, mind

That all they do is perish;

Or else to someone else less kind

It enters state nightmarish.

So let our pride be fast contained.

Let's not so priv'leged think

To own that which we fast and fain

Would snatch when eyes are blinked.

So temperance use and pride restrain

Do not such comfort drink.
