Temporary

from the time i was little

not long after i started to walk

i knew what my life would entail

writing in marker, rather than chalk

i was going to work my ass off

nothing would stand in my way

i would earn the very degree

that would put the letters to my name

but no one told me then

what i know now

the tireless hours of steadfast work and dedication

would do nothing but wear me down

i feel as though i have nothing left

similar to a nested tree

i had never seen burnout come to fruition

& definitely never imagined my first to be me
