Tempted Warrior

A soldier stands tall;

She wears no uniform but has a soul prepared for battle.

A finger slowly grazes a trigger with the contempt of violence,

But she lay it back upon the holster.

A soldier stands tall;

The enemy has provoked a war she is unwilling to fight.

In refusal to surmount to the violence within,

She dared turn a cheek to the gun fire.

A silent war rages on;

Bullets puncture her chest,

But she remains in rank;

She knows bleeding wounds begin to clot.

The internal battle subsides.

The warrior has surrendered,

But she remains proud in stance;

Because a soldier stands tall.
