Ten Months
Ten months we spent together
You and I sharing a hopeless love
It was doomed before it ever started
I knew this, how could I keep such a thing from my beloved?
Ten months you lived in an ignorant bliss
And all I could do was stare in envy
How could you have known what plagued my mind
Of all the doubts that burdened me?
Ten months I smiled, laughed, and pretended
Of course I loved you, I always will
But the love I feel can never emerge
From a heart, like mine, so damaged, so ill.
Ten months, doesn’t seem long I know
But to wear a façade for so long
This is what made it so unbearable
Living life like an unending torturous song.
Ten months is how long we were together
But I think all along you felt it
As friends we were untamed, so beautiful
But with a relationship we couldn’t help it.
Ten months you tried as hard as you could
And I fought with every breath to trust you
But we both needed a love we couldn’t produce
We were both damaged, and in that damage our love brew.
Ten months before it blew up in my face
But you had to know that was going to happen
It was good for a while until you found her arms
And with that my heart began to blacken.
Ten months you were with me but enjoyed her laugh
You loved me I knew this, but how could you trust me?
For I came to you, not over another, and you knew
So to come to you damaged had a certain fee.
Ten months we were both culprits – liars and thieves
We lied by saying we were ready for each other
Then accidently stole each other’s hearts
Who knew I’d fall so hard, I’ll never feel this for another.
Ten months our love was forsaken
But I neither could nor would ever want to take it back
For now that the ten months is over, you’ve left
Lord knows I need another ten months, I long to be taken aback.
