A Tender, Verdant Domino
How could I change the world? How could I make it change?
How could I rearrange
A universe, a world of mistakes and scars
Of falling suns and burning out stars
I saw it in the far expanxe
My loss of time, and loss of chance
It’s too late, the answer I can’t find
But now, right here I see me waves crest
Filled with discarded waste, and plastic mess
More material found in the element we ride
Than in my long-board’s foamy spine
There is too much to change
And too much beauty to save
But if I were able to tilt the first domino
I would plant a see and let it grow
I’d fill my hills with shoulders of arms
With fruitful limbs and little farms
Where the relationship between creature and land
Would be equally pure – why is this hard to understand?
A Father gave us this earth, for us He did create
A place we could love and take care of and keep safe
Here we grew and here we learned
To build homes, only set fire and let them burn
We sought refuge for this isn’t our permanent home
And yet we leave it scarred and scathed to the bone
But if I could plant on little seed
Would I grow peace – instead of the gread?
I’d teach all the children how to love in return
And not just deplete or burn and turn
I would teach them how to be scientist and how to caste nets
I’d teach them how to build farms and become vets
The children should grow strong and proud
And teach their children, to teach and know how
To coexist in a great big world
To love all the creatures, all the boys and girls
But if I could sew the seed of change
Change the world, the stars could rearrange
I would try to leave this world a little better than how I found it
I’d find beauty and try not to surround is
The aesthetics of an environment are highly ignored
But a greater respect is what I’d push for
I’d leave nature natural
This theory is factual
That this little domino can make a big change in some of our flaws
If we’d only tread lighter on the earth, like other creature’s paws
This world was given to us, but we still must share it
We should love our neighbors and try to care for it
If just one seed was to make this turn
We’d have jobs to work and children who’d learn
We’d have pure land and food to fill between bones and skin
We’d have full stomachs and fuller grins
We’d have independent, proud countries and creatures
We’d have healthy land with natural aesthetic features
We’d have better surf and clearer tides
We’d have clearer days and bluer skies
Our resources might be cycle and steady
A sustainable world, is it ready
To make that change and plant that seed
For long, happy lives – don’t you see the need?
This is what I’d plant – a sustainable seed I’d sow
One little push of that domino
And I’d teach my children to learn
And I’d teach them to grow
