"The Terrible Truth"

6/18/15

1:45 p.m.

Do you care?

That we are crying

As we are the only race

Rapidly dying...

Our job resumes

They find us interesting and they want us to come back

Until they've come across our ethnicity

They have not told us the real reason, but we know it was beause we are black

Theoretically, we cannot work

Theoretically, we cannot pray

My heart goes out to those who were killed in South Carolina

As I am still devastated by the news I had heard today

I cannot stress this enough

Racism is REAL

We are forced to live in a society

Where alot of people do not know how to feel

Movies like "The Mississipi Burning"

And "12 Years A Slave"

Are reflections of what goes on in this world

That can never be tamed

Yeah this is 2015

But I still feel like we are living in the 17th century

Dammit why can't we all just accept each other?

And live peacefully

Martin Luther King Jr,

Rosa Parks, all of them looking down on us

They could not stand the fact that after all they have done to better this country, had all came down to this

And are therefore in disgust

It seems as if the more we ignore racism

The more it gets worse

Now we are surrounded

By this generational curse

I have recently graduated from high school and am now enjoying the summer life. My plans after graduation is to attend a Junior college to get my basics out of the way, and later transfer to a university to either major in Music Therapy or Forensics Psychology. I would also like to major in Screenwriting/Playwright, but I am not sure which university I would like to attend for that particular major. During my spare time I would read books/the bible, listen (or play music, and yes I am an instrumentalist. I know how to play the Baritone/Euphonium and the Trombone), write poetry, and research on various subjects...I figured the more I learn, the more aware I am of what is going on either around me or far away. My favorite color is purple and I love Asian food (especially Viatnamese). I hope that my writing and my profession for which ever God gives me talents in will help a lot of people and in return, make this world a little better someday.

I must say, this poem is so needed, especially at a time like now. I agree with the line "It seems as if the more we ignore racism The more it gets worse" because that's the realization we are living. Great poem and nice choice of words!

This poem (as you can see) was written to portray my feelings towards racism. Yes, African-Americans are not the only ethnicities out there in this world who are being racially targeted, but we are the main ones. This poem was also written in regards to the shooting that took place in the Emanuel African Methodist Epicospal located near Charleston in South Carolina. This unfortunate shooting had caused the lives of 9 innocent people. Please leave prayers for those who have lost their loved ones due to the tragic shooting that took place. We must try to solve this issue guys, racism is definitely real and it is not something that will go away overnight. Unfortunately, racism will never go away, but let us try to teach people to accept one another for who they are so that hopefully in the near future, this problem will lessen over time.
