Tethered to Smoke
I'll never understand how you
could text another man while
you stay in this house watching
your relationship crumble. I guess it's
easier because I'm
away, but that doesn't make it
easier on dad or me. You go from not
being able to say you love him to
kissing all over his face in a
matter of months. Is it just a matter
of months before there's another
screw up? Was I
a screw up? Do I
keep you tethered to this
home and this man that you
supposedly love? I can't believe
you anymore when you look in his
eyes and say you're
sorry. I can't believe you anymore when
you look at us and say
you love us. You abandoned
your family and now you're so
desperate to get it back that you
smother us in your
affection; I swear I can taste
the sweet smoke from the
back of your throat after
you put out the fire that was
burning your insides telling
you: "Lie. It will all be alright." I guess no one
told you that smoke kills
faster than fire ever will.
