Tetraphobia

People can look out their window and see people;
People loving,
People wondering,
People laughing,
People playing

People can look in the mirror and see monsters;
Monsters breathing,
Monsters blinking,
Monsters frowning,
Monsters crying

Why is this monster here?

People can be anorexic and morbidly obese,
Struggling to smile and struggling to sleep,
Or eat or drink or breath or see
That there's nothing wrong at all

This monster is no alien to insult
But this monster doesn't see what all the people see
The people see people;
Wondering,
Loving,
Laughing,
Playing

These people see a person;
You
You who can do anything,
You who can love anyone,
You who can go anywhere

The only monster is your past
You're letting it hold you back
With claws and teeth that can rip through you,
With words that you'll never forget,
With things that you'll always regret,
With what-ifs and how-cans that you'll have to suppress

With pain that digs straight through you,
Hate that will spit and chew you,
Depression that never even knew you
Until you let the monster find you

Once you see the light;
A passion,
A lover,
A reason to be,
This monster will run and hide,
I promise you

Because there are no monsters coexisting with the joy of knowing who you are
And there are no people free from the monster who won't accept you too,
So see yourself from a person's view
And be the best you that you can be
Because there's only one you;
A wondering,
Loving,
Laughing,
Playing you
