Is Thank You Enough?

Of course, a “thank you” can mean so much
but ultimately, in hindsight, is just saying “thank you” enough?

I thank you for providing me with a warm meal three times a day and more
I thank you for being the one person to always be on the other side of the door

I thank you for everything that you do
From standing up for me to tying my shoe

I thank you for loving me unconditionally

I thank you for giving me siblings that share our love
I thank you for helping me excel and achieve my goals
Not only reaching but surpassing milestones and showing me more places to go
I thank you for being there for me
Financially

Emotionally

Mentally
A rarity such as yourself, I will forever thank you

In sickness and in health

But again, let me ask you,
“Is thank you enough?”

Better that I show you, how thankful I truly am 
so that one day all my thanks can fall into your hand

Thanking you by
Going to class and being the best I can be
By giving a helping hand wherever I may be
By showing love to those who are without
By working my hardest from day in to day out 
Let me show you that I can travel the world and change it
Allow me to make a path using the wisdom in which I came from
To live my best life, better than the image you paved for me

So that one day it is you who is thanking me

I shall not allow the hard work you invested in me, go to waste
I want to say thank you in my actions rather than words
As if I am the seed blooming from the soil that you cared for
I say thank you because it needs to be heard
But let my thanks truly show through all my hard work that I am sure to endure
So that one day the roles switch and it is me who touches the thorn
