Thank You, But I'm Sorry.

Dear Best Friend,

I can't thank you enough

and neither can all of the cookies

I could ever bake for you.

And I'm sorry.

I'm sorry we've only gotten this close

since I lie in frail, white sheets

of a hospital bed.

I'm sorry that I skip

over the s in your name,

I wish I could pick

you to be

the only word

I don't stutter.

I'm sorry that I lied

I undersatnd math

quite fine,

I search for excuses

to hear your voice.

I'm sorry that I can't not refrain

from brushing your shoulder

as we walk in crowded halls

because you always manage

to make me feel safe.

I'm sorry that I seem unable

to take my eyes off of you

but I like to see you smile

and count the creases

in the corner of your eyes.

I'm sorry that only my mom

can tell that I have fallen

hopelessly in love

with you.

With Love,

B.
