Thank You, Life.
I hate you.
You’ve never held my hand.
You’ve made me cry.
You’ve never cushioned my fall on the land.
You’ve always made me ask why.
You’re too quick when I need you to be slow,
and you’re too slow when I need you to be quick.
when I try to cheat on your tests I get a scold,
when I try to take your tests, it makes me sick.
I hate that I need you,
But its not the other way around when it comes to you.
I thank my ancestors for not quitting you,
So, I can get to see you.
Yet you cause me so much head ache,
So much discomfort, so much stress.
There’s only so much I can take.
But to you, as well as myself, I must confess:
I thank you.
I thank you for showing me that not everybody is my friend.
I thank you for never giving me extra time to spend,
Or your hand to lend.
I thank you because I know you’ll be there to the end.
Thank you for never giving me what I want,
But rather what I need.
Not enough money for a brand-new watch,
But just enough time to sit down and address my greed.
You never cushioned my fall because I need to learn.
The tears, mental breakdowns, and jail time was you being stern.
You always made me ask why because I soon answered it as time progressed.
Why am I always out of money?
Because of greed and lack of prioritizing too.
Why doesn’t he love me?
If you don’t love yourself, whys should he love you?
Why did my jealousy prevail?
You’re not focusing on all of your blessings, your insecurities awoke from its rest.
I tried so hard, why did I still fail?
Trying hard doesn’t mean you’ll make it every time, it means you tried your best.
I get it.
I finally get YOU!
You weren’t giving me the test.
I was giving MYSELF the test.
I asked so many questions,
Maybe I was giving YOU the test.
I thank you for not holding me hand.
I thank you for holding my spirit.
You always pushed me to my limit
Knowing I’ll find a way to endear it.
I thank you for pushing my head under the water
But providing me with a snorkel.
Giving me a book full of sins with foot notes of morals.
I thank you for pushing me off a cliff,
But making sure the cliff is a height at which you know I’ll make it.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to live life and not fake it.
Thank you for everything.
Thank you, Life.
