Thank You Mom

To the woman in my dreams,
The one with the long brown curls
and uneven red lipstick
The woman with my nose
My face,
My only doppelgänger -
Thank you.

Thank you for giving me a name
For giving me one simple,
bent photograph of you
I can see parts of myself in

Thank you for giving me a birth land
One whose beauty is miraculous
Tuk-tuks bumping and bouncing down the cobblestone streets

With rolling hills, and rippling rivers
A land I can go back to

Thank you for wanting what’s best for me
For giving up a part of yourself
For helping complete another family
But most of all for giving me life

Giving me the chance to create an unbiological family

In honor of the thought of you

Grasias, te quiero mi madre
