Thank you for the privilege

(poems go here)When you’re standing in line

And staring ahead of you

You see another

Checking out their groceries

How little we know about them

The nothingness of the person

One foot from you

The blackness of their past

Lost to you and never to be known

Could fill space

We realize then

How little we know

About ourselves and

How much we’ve forgotten

About what we can’t remember

And who we used to know

And yet, we accept

Time pushes us along

Into new rooms

And Strange hallways

One attempt closer

To finding

What we need
