Thank you for your silence

7:00 am, someone calls my name.

I know this voice, I was molded by this voice.

It’s the voice I’ve chosen to forget but can never truly eliminate.

My friend Layla has come back to haunt me.

She’s a silhouette figure living in my head.

She penetrates my brain,

Makes a stew out of my emotions and feeds me its soup of bitter lies.

Truth is, I am pathetically hungry for her lies.

As she taunts, and mocks me

I take the blows and hide under my bed.

She tells me to shut up as she pulls me out and binds me with her jagged thread.

She keeps me locked inside her cage for days.

But I am uncomfortably comfortable in this stillness.

At least..that’s what I keep telling myself.

She sends me spiraling down to spiritual numbness

And transforms me into this caricature of myself.

So I try to fight her with every single cell inside my body.

But her words send me back to point 1.

This silhouette girl slowly reveals her face.

And in her I see myself.

She gives me a crooked smile and says,

“Thank you for your silence, Enjoy the ride. It’s a pleasure to have you here”
