Thankful for you
You took my hand in love from the time I opened my eyes
You cradled me in your arms through all the nights I cried
You took my hand in caring when mom said her goodbyes
You were there to wipe my tears the day that daddy died
You took my hand in guidance to help me along the way
You always stood beside me despite of what people had to say
You took my hand in trust and taught me to have faith
You were always there to protect me and keep me safe
You took my hand in loyalty and told me to hold my head high
You were the parent that taught me to give things a try
You took my hand in courage and taught me to be brave
But you were thankful I didn’t have to be told to behave
You took my hand in knowledge that you still pass on to me today
You were always there to help when I didn’t know what to say
You took my hand in friendship and taught me how to play
I remember all the good times we’ve had along the way
Though the road has been long and hard through happiness and tears
The one gift in life I am thankful for and have been through the years
The one gift that can’t ever be replaced in my life is you
Though I am growing older and you think we are growing apart
No matter what happens in my life you will always hold the biggest part of my heart.
