That's Not Me
That’s not me,
That newborn on his mother’s knee
Just a blob, paraded for all to see.
Ok he was cute, but that’s not me.
That’s not me,
That schoolboy, who still sits on his mother’s knee
A life of play, and weekends by the sea
He learnt to swim, but that’s not me.
That’s not me,
That older boy, watching girls swim in the sea
He fancied one, but of he, the girl didn’t see
He was sad, ok, but that’s not me.
That’s not me,
The one who caught the girl who did not see
Was happy, till finding he just one of many
Sad again, too bad, but that’s not me
That’s not me,
The young man holding a baby on his knee
Now with a family, the newborn making three
Happy at last, but that’s not me
That’s not me,
That old man who needs glasses to see
His family grown, and can finally roam free
A travelling man, but that’s not me
That’s not me,
A lifeless vehicle, a body on a stainless gurney
A happy life they said, one once filled with glee
As a spark enters another baby in a womb, …..
That’s me.
