That’s Some ‘Cool Rage’

You might never have met her—Courage. She doesn’t befriend just anyone, But you’ll know if she’s chosen you. Always armed with pinpricks of fear, Shake her hand in gratitude, You lazy, lying, sly, smelly creature, Hey, no need to cry, We can’t defy Human nature. Courage was born after some diva stepsisters. Gumption, way tired of guttural Hutzpa, popped out fast, So the other twin came last. Compared to little Courage, You’d call them tricksters. Don’t worry, they’re mostly mature. Completely united protest, They hook you through the navel, And suddenly you’re having an asthma attack. Swore you’d never say, “I heart you,” Can’t take it back. That’s some “cool rage” ‘cause only Courage cares for Even the selfish and vile. So you’re gasping, they’re grappling (remember with that hook?) Warning: vomit is past due. How often instead of bile While Dignity drops south but out your mouth Spatters a heart? Look! When you fear those words were true. There’s that “cool rage” ‘cause Courage is the only one you can find. Diva 1 and Diva 2 can’t be trusted, They’ll get you busted, Leave you in the dust, Hit the road, But don’t worry, They’ll come back— They need your blood-rushin’ track. Understand? Courage is your job to find. You have to find her Because, put it this way: Does it take courage to drink tap water? Didn’t find her, that’s for sure, So it’s nothing but culture. Gasp, you could die! We even lie to ourselves. You don’t say? Yes, my needle of Courage is right over there. Over in that haystack? I plan to use it when the weather is fair. Dude, that’s outa wack! Whatja doin’ to the poor girl? Quick! Sew up a rainbow before needle turns to rust. Too late, she followed her sisters’ blazing dust. If you’d only try, you’d find her. Look down on Mt. Everest, up a black hole, Though if you happen to go there every day, And never even thought of being afraid, Then there’s only “cool” and no “rage.” So Courage, Courage, stands in line Behind Fear in his tats and a groove, Better shake her hand in gratitude When you meet “Cool Rage.”
