The Broken Doll

Broken doll made of china Perfect symmetry unaligned A crystal lip and a chipped eye Waiting for a prince To be his bride A Jacksonian supporting the common man So the woman sits back Sharp pieces of terracotta tan Her husband crafts in the mine While she prepares food on the stove Same old job till the end of time She wanted to go to Princeton Have a real job A real life But it’s all a man’s stereotype If not she lives a lie So she stands by and cooks rice And her partner dies in war So she’s alone on Fourth of July No barbecue hot dogs or burgers And at night the fireworks fly high She’ll hold back her teary eyes But she knows her soul will soon die
