The Dice Have Been Rolled

Why?

Why does this happen?

A sparkle catches the eye,

A glimmer of intelligence

Peaks from behind,

It's hidden, but present

And I know not how to try,

To seek out this glimpse

That will never be mine.

I'm lost and alone

But I'm surrounded

By pictures of beauty

That leave me astounded.

I wish to touch.

To have my heart sounded.

But I am restrained,

No moment to be had,

I wish to speak,

But I'd be confounded.

For though we started the race

In the same place,

I can't help but notice

I'm behind in the dust.

Just abandoned to rust,

As the others are fading away.

And I'm left to wonder

If I were just stronger...

Would I ever finish this game?
