The Emergency Inside

Someone call an ambulance, I am bleeding out inside, Though my skin is completely whole, And the wounds have room to hide. It never stops, it never fades, No matter what I try, A hollow space where hope should live, Under a heavy sky. The house is built of broken glass, The pieces cut too deep, I try to sweep the shards away, While everybody sleeps. But I cannot mend the fractures, Or make the structure stand, When every pillar of my life Is turning into sand. I watch my father fade away, Chasing a chemical ghost, I cannot even blame his heart, Because I understand him most. I see the sickness of this world, The traps that pull him down, It is a quiet, tragic thing To watch a giant drown. My mother revolves around the moon, If the moon were just a man, Chasing a love she cannot find, Reverting where she can. My sister walks the selfsame path, Lost in a toxic spin, Drowning her thoughts in alcohol, To numb the pain within. One brother lives in heavy dark, With hatred in his chest, He cannot forgive the motherly sins, Or put the ghosts to rest. Another sister cut the cords, And vanished in the night, Her children do not know our names, Hidden away from sight. And then there is the youngest one, Who needs a father’s hand, Searching the empty, hollow rooms, To help him understand. But there is no one there to guide, No shadow on the wall, So I become the witness To the breaking of us all. I am the quiet observer, The anchor in the storm, Feeling the frost of everyone, While trying to keep them warm. I am bleeding out from watching, Absorbing all their grief, Stuck in a cycle of their pain, With no sign of relief. Someone call an ambulance, The pressure starts to grow, I do not know how much more weight My breaking bones can show. The sirens scream inside my head, The world is turning gray, I am hurting for them, hurting for me, And it will not go away.
