The Game of Flight and Fall

High above the cage in Crete His father cries out in the heat But Icarus, with laughing breath Is soaring towards a gilded death Below the ocean gleams a bright green-blue Above, the sun is blazing too The feathers fall, the wax frays And ends his bright, rebellious days Across the board, she moves like snow A careful child, her mother’s glow Displayed to neighbors, praised aloud A symbol raised above the crowd Through every win she feels the weight Of the watching eyes who celebrate Not just the girl—but what she proves A life they just can’t refuse Yet in the quiet, where lamps are low She studies how the pawns shall go She builds a fortress, cool and clean To rule the board, a silent queen She charts the pieces across the dark And calculates each subtle mark For he chased the burning light But she won the war through thoughtful fight
