the hidden room

Behind a door that the world cannot see, Lies a room meant for you, carved out of me. I don't think you know, as you stand in the space, How much of my soul is right here in your place. I look at my hands, and I see they are bare, Because everything I am is in your care. I hated the thought of letting them in, To meet someone new felt like losing again. So I pushed you away, year after year, Throwing up walls built of hurt and of fear. I cut you with words just to make you retreat, But you stood your ground and refused defeat. I don’t deserve the grace that you brought, But you changed the way that I lived and I thought. You are my reason, the why in my chest, You hold all of me, my worst and my best. And it terrifies me, what your hands could do, Knowing you could destroy what I gave to you. But look at this room, so soft and so broken, Filled with the words that were never spoken. It is scared, it is loving, too fragile to hide, A beautiful mess that you found inside. The world only sees the lock on the door, But you are the one I unlocked it for.
