The Promises We Carry
Life whispered softly when I was young,
Through golden mornings and songs unsung.
It promised mountains I'd someday climb,
And taught me hope would arrive in time.
I gathered dreams like petals in spring,
Believing each promise meant everything.
Yet seasons changed, and storms appeared,
Bringing the very things I feared.
Some promises shattered like fragile glass,
Leaving sharp memories as years would pass.
Others remained, though hidden from sight,
Like distant stars waiting through the night.
Life does not promise a road without pain,
Nor sunshine forever, nor shelter from rain.
It offers lessons disguised as loss,
And wisdom earned at a difficult cost.
I learned that strength is not born from ease,
But from standing tall in relentless seas.
I learned that failure is not the end,
But a patient teacher and faithful friend.
The deepest promise life ever made
Was not that every wound would fade,
But that each scar would tell a story true
Of battles survived and a stronger you.
So treasure your journey, both bitter and sweet,
For every setback and every defeat
May shape the person you're meant to be,
Carving your name into destiny.
And when hope flickers in moments of night,
Remember this lesson and hold it tight:
Life keeps its promises in unexpected ways—
Not by giving easy years,
But by giving courage to face your days.
...
We promise to be be promised of a lesson we once forgotten.
