The Shallow Shore

The ocean stretches, dark and deep, Where silent, heavy secrets sleep. A thousand currents pull and rise Beneath the gaze of placid skies. But all we witness, standing here, Is where the crashing waves appear. A sudden rush, a burst of foam, A restless spirit seeking home. It is a showcase, brief and loud, A performance for the shore and crowd, Of everything the depths must hold, Of stories left completely untold ! The tide can only give away A fraction of its fierce dismay, A tiny hint of what is stored Within a world so vast, ignored. And we are like the ocean floor, Just casting ripples to the shore. The words we speak, the tears we cry, The fleeting warmth we pass them by, Are just the surface of a sea , Of wild and unuttered history. For human hearts are built the same, A quiet depth no one can tame. We hold a lifetime, riled and deep, Of promises we had to keep, Of love and pain we never show, That those around us will not know. So let the waves crash, wild and free, A witness to the hidden sea. For what we give, and what they find, Is just the shore of what's behind.
