Before you,
I thought love was an event.
A collision.
A firework exploding against the architecture of the night.
Beautiful,
brief,
and destined to disappear.
Then you arrived
with your quiet magnificence
and dismantled every theory I had ever written about the heart.
You did not enter my life
like a storm.
You entered like dawn—
so gradually
that I did not realize the darkness was leaving
until I found myself standing in light.
There are women who are beautiful.
And then there are women
whose existence alters the geometry of beauty itself.
Women who make language feel inadequate.
Women who force poets into exile
because no arrangement of syllables
can carry the weight of what they are.
You are one of them.
I have searched dictionaries
for a word grand enough to contain you.
I have wandered through sonnets,
through metaphors,
through entire libraries of human longing,
and still every sentence arrives incomplete.
Because how do I explain
the way my soul recognizes yours?
How do I explain
that your laughter feels like returning home
to a place I had never visited before?
How do I explain
that in a universe billions of years old,
filled with incalculable possibilities,
I somehow found the one person
capable of making eternity feel too short?
And strangely,
it is not the grand moments I carry most.
Not the milestones.
Not the photographs.
It is the quiet things.
The conversations that lingered long after midnight.
The comfortable silences
that never demanded to be filled.
The way your smile could soften
an entire day of disappointment.
The way being near you
made the world seem less hurried,
as if time itself paused
to listen when you spoke.
Perhaps that is what love truly is.
Not possession.
Not obsession.
Not the desperate hunger people mistake for devotion.
Love is witnessing.
Love is looking at another human being
and saying,
“I see the entirety of your scars,
your contradictions,
your unfinished chapters,
and I still find you miraculous.”
I love the parts of you
you display proudly.
But I also love the hidden provinces.
The doubts you rarely confess.
The burdens you carry silently.
The battles you win
without applause.
Especially those.
Because strength is not found
in the absence of breaking.
It is found
in choosing to remain soft
after life has given you every reason not to.
And that is what amazes me most.
Not your beauty.
Though heaven knows
it could start wars.
Not your intelligence.
Though conversations with you
feel like discovering new constellations.
It is your tenderness.
Your refusal to become cruel
in a world that often rewards cruelty.
Your decision to remain luminous
despite every shadow.
I have often wondered
whether the stars envy us.
Whether they look down from their ancient distances
and marvel at the rare miracle
of one soul finding another
among so much vastness.
Because what are the odds
that two separate histories,
two separate storms,
two separate hearts
would arrive at the same moment
and recognize themselves
in each other’s light?
If I were granted one final breath,
one final sentence,
one final opportunity
to leave something behind,
it would not be a monument.
Not a legacy.
Not a name carved into stone.
It would simply be this:
That once,
during my brief and astonishing stay on Earth,
I loved a woman
who rearranged the stars inside me.
And for that reason alone,
my life became poetry.
