Themselves

She was an empty journal with no words in sight

But yet he was an author with nothing to write

She wanted to be the ship to sail away

But he didn’t allow departure; like clouds of gray

She was the soft soul

But even her happiness he stole

He was the roaring shoal

But even his freedom she stole

She wanted inspiration, but he wasn’t the spark

They found many things, but were still lost in the dark

He wanted to be the hero, but she couldn’t bear the cross

They accomplished many things, but didn’t share the applause

He left her so she could grow

She left him so he could grow

So wouldn’t you know?

They left each other to be themselves

Dedicated to "a very special friend"
