Then Back Now
Take me back to the island breeze.
Take me back to the swaying palm trees.
Take me back to days of innocence.
Where we didn't know of pain or abstinence
When we would play carelessly
Run about playing tag aimlessly
Not a care in the world,
Where troubles aren't hurled.
Life was always simplistic,
Yet we all reached for the lipstick,
Imagined growing up and being tall
President or rulers over all.
Didn't know of troubles and ills
Of backstabbers and paying bills
Love taken and love lost
Hearts broken and dreams tossed
Strangers making preconcieved notions
All while going through the motions
We were young, wild, free
In the purest meaning
Free of worries- free of guilt
The biggest worry was if something spilt;
We'd jump in puddles and run in rain
Not knowing of shock and feeling pain
The years we would aquire
Unknown events that would transpire
Never knew there would be weeks
That would bring tears to our cheeks.
