Then vs.Now
Dear Past Self,
Come out back, to the place we used to know. The place we used to hide, the place that used to be home. You are no longer empty handed in the hands of love, but perhaps full handed and push away by fear. You sit there, guarded yet open with longing eyes of pain and love. As my eyes look upon you, I can see pain. Regret that you let yourself wither away into darkness. The one you knew so well and that deceived you. “Eat me, eat me” it said and you bit. Sadly, instead of you eating it, it devoured you. You were blinded by the beauty its face, but lost in a song with words of hurt and chances lost. And you can’t seem to let it out. Try as you may you stutter, for it is the answer you fear. You’re unsure if you can face the inner demon and sing it to sleep. You say to yourself “If this is love, why must it hurt me so.” Honey, that’s the point of love, it’s long and slow. As you long to lay in the arms of happiness and embrace strength with the eyes of fear, you need to be PROUD of yourself. You are fighting and haven’t given in. Everyday is another day you try to hide. The senses you have as the drug it is looms. Drunk in love, and high off fumes. Rehab isn’t the answer, it’s only you.You can’t seem to let go, can’t see the end
For, there is one , my friend. Not near in sight, but encompassed by success, it will reveal itself in times of happiness. Now that I look at you, eyes of knowledge light up. For you have gained an immense light that draws love your way. The heart may feel broken, the soul astray. However, you have lived till this day. Have faith that a beautiful heart like yours may be placed in the hands of love and looked at with eyes of awe. For, I have taken you under my wing now and flew over the waters to a place where I found peace. I’ve dried the tears and clean up my mess. For now, there is nothing you shall regret.
Sincerely,
Melanie Deguzman
