Therapist in Training
Working in an elementary school, mom found three kids in desperate need.
Longing for a safe home, clean clothes and someone to feed.
An emergency placement was made, they became ours that December day.
We told them they would be ours, forever they would stay.
This day would forever change me; heart and soul.
No longer a selfish teenager, but a special big sister role.
We fed them and loved them, clean clothes they would wear.
Their first Christmas morning and family traditions we would share.
Weekly play therapy, so their healing could start,
Even swimming lessons would begin to heal their broken hearts.
After a number of incidents, a whole family we could never be,
A broken system full of secrets and an ending we could never see.
The abuse in their pasts would darken their days and nights.
All they had been through; our family could not set it all right.
A family of seven was not the way our story would go,
They were able to find two parents that would love them all so.
It’s not what I wanted, for years the anger grew,
After lots of therapy I was able to see our sadness gave them something new.
I began to see a purpose in my heart that would grow,
I want to be a helper; show sad children they can glow!
Turning beauty from ashes, a healing for all to see,
A therapist to hurting children is what I’m meant to be.
