There is a child

You have the finest that money can buy

With things worth more than gold

Your clothes are really fly

But there’s a child out in the cold

Every time that you go out

There’s good food that you have eaten

But do you ever wonder about

A child somewhere being beaten?

On Thanksgiving Day

There’s a turkey that you will be carving

But do you ever take time to pray…

For a child who is somewhere starving?

Your suit is tailor made

You never wear anything used

But have you ever come to the aid…

Of a child somewhere being abused?

The things you be buying

Is sometimes more than you can carry

And there’s a child that’s somewhere crying

Because she’s so hungry that it's scary

You are proud of new hair

And the new outfit that you chose

But there are children everywhere

Who do not have any clothes

Your house has a tennis court

With 5 bedrooms and 3 baths

But have you done anything to support

A child who don’t know how to laugh?

Your lawyer is one of the best

He can get any of case dismissed

But have you done anything to address…

A child somewhere that has been missed?

The next time are out shopping

Why don’t you do something wild

And think about dropping

A gift off to a child

Why don’t the next time you get paid

You get behind the wheel

Of your Escalade

And bring a hungry child a meal?

You have done really fine

You have the best things in the land

But try to keep in mind

That there’s a child that needs your hand

Darlena ThePoet

Greetings: I am a nurse and a mother of five with four grandchildren. I have been writing poetry for several years. I am not a professional, but I believe that that is because my work has just never made it into the right hands. However, I guarantee that anyone who read my poetry will enjoy my work. I am currently working on my second book of spiritual poetry, which has not yet been published. My first book of spiritual poetry has been published, as well as a children's book, 'No Bubble Bath for Desmond.' I am very excited to reach out to the world even further with my writing.
