There once was

There once was a girl
A girl with music In her heart
Cracks in her head
Scars on her skin
A girl who hates her own birthday
Because of absent friends
After days of planning
The once was a girl bright as the sun
Taught to be dumb
Just learning to be herself again
The once was a girl
Buried under layer upon layer of anxiety and depression
So deep that the girl doesn’t ever know it’s there
There once was a girl
Struggling so hard to be there for everyone else
Without anyone to be there for her
A girl who felt she was to blame for every little inconvenience
Who felt she annoys her friends
Because she wanted to show them something
Something this girl thought cool
Something she was proud of
Only to get uninterested replies
There once was a girl
A girl who hurts in the Inside without realizing
Who hurts herself on the outside to relieve the pain
If only for a minute
There once was a girl
And that girl
That girl
Is me

I am a spoken word poet and that is the format the majority of my work will be. Some of these are work from the heart and some I did for school.
