There Is Room

There’s no room for hate in the classroom

It takes the space of love;

Close-mindedness at the desk

Takes away our chance to rise above.

There’s no room for guns in the classroom,

They occupy the space for thought;

When you bring fear onto the campus

You undermine the lessons being taught.

There’s no room for “no” in the classroom

It eliminates the time for yes;

Negativity strips away the education

That can come from a solid guess.

There’s no room for race in the classroom

It takes away our ability to see;

And while blinded by man-made descriptions

It takes away our right to be.

There’s no room for these things in the classroom

But there is room for you and I.

Enough space for everyone who wants to learn

Anyone brave enough to try.
