There Was a Change
Children are taught from a young age,
What to do, what to say, how to turn the page.
To keep writing their stories.
To keep living their glories.
That with hardwork, time will set their foundations.
That with determination, they'll find their vocations.
We as children are blind to see.
Catastrophe of realism, nothing is free.
Teenagers are taught to find a goal.
To never lose their self control.
To never give up on their dreams.
That with perserverance and self esteem,
Windows will open and hope will show,
Where their feet are meant to go.
Can they learn to be independent?
Can some of them be transcendent?
When I entered adulthood,
Trying to find where I stood,
Collecting my thought, of-
What I was taught,
Things I had learned,
Cremations of things I had burned,
The mistakes I made,
They laid and they weighed.
Can selflessness or selfishness create a path of it's own?
Can never giving up really leave you alone?
What is done, is done, and sometimes you can't go on-
Walking a road that is already gone.
Teaching this is not in your job description,
This comes when life finds your personal prescription.
The harder the fall, the greater the climb
To learn life lessons, live life in your own time.
