There's a Difference

There's a saying that love is blind but that's not true at all.
Feeling love is feeling the cool autumn breeze;
the fluorescent colors of the leaves.
Love is a painting full of life and glory;
an array of strokes to depict a beautiful story.
It's composed of honesty and compassion;
not of lies and deception.
And with love comes knowing someone better than you know yourself;
but that can be put aside on a dark shelf.

Admiration is not a bad thing unless it's mistaken for love.
It's a gaping hole where your heart used to be;
since now it has been smashed on the floor and bleeds.
It's not caring about your feelings when they lie to you;
or the fact that when they left they left you feeling blue.
They care about you enough to stay here;
But they don't care enough to build trust or to fight through the fear.

Don't make the same mistakes that I had once made.
I noticed it before everything went down hill;
But I was afraid of losing what I didn't know could kill.
I thought emotional turmoil and lies were what defined love;
When in reality, that's only what admiration is made out of
I wish I had known the difference before it was too late;
and now I'm left wishing that I could go back and wipe our slate.

Please believe me
There's a difference
Godspeed
