These hands
My Hands
These hands have carried more than anyone will ever know.
They have held tiny fingers that trusted me completely,
wiped tears from faces I loved,
and brushed away my own when nobody was watching.
These hands have built,
broken,
begged,
and healed.
They have held flowers at funerals,
letters that changed my life,
and the weight of goodbye when words were not enough.
They have reached for people who were already letting go,
held on to promises that were never meant to stay,
and opened slowly when I finally learned
that not everything was mine to save.
These hands have known hard work.
They have carried exhaustion,
washed away the evidence of long days,
and still found the strength to create something beautiful.
They have held love gently,
even when love did not hold me back.
They have held anger I never spoke,
dreams I was afraid to chase,
and pieces of myself I thought I had lost forever.
But these hands have also learned release.
They have let go of people who only knew how to take.
They have dropped the weight of guilt that was never mine.
They have opened their palms and watched some things leave
because holding on was hurting more than losing.
I look at these hands now
and I see a story.
The scars.
The lines.
The proof that I have lived.
These hands are not perfect.
They are not untouched.
They are the hands of someone who has loved deeply,
lost painfully,
and survived quietly.
They have held so much.
And maybe the greatest thing they will ever hold…
is the person I am still becoming.
