These Streets of Ours
From cracks on the sidewalk
We all try to claim them
to street sign and stop light;
Claim these Streets of Ours.
On these streets We all talk
Like it's a precious gem
And how We all will fight
For these Streets of Ours.
But north by just one block
or south around the bend
the other cliques claim rights;
To these Streets of Ours.
If they claim our crosswalk
and if they are on our end
We extend the full might;
Of these Streets of Ours
We struggle over spots
without means to an end
and no clear goal in sight
For these Streets of Ours.
I'm scared to line the chalk
over blocks we pretend
that someone owns downright;
But no one owns
These streets of ours.
