They

they
sejal govindarao

as just a seed

she taught me how to paint a picture so vivid, so imaginable, so fluid boho-chic, wild, creative
she lived in the clouds among the stars

he taught me how to ride a bike
so bright, so warmhearted, so grounded down to earth
he built the foundation that rooted us

as i grew
they taught me how to dream in color

sunshine pours through the emerald june trees freshly cut grass
cold popsicles, bright red with strawberry preserves i feel, hear, taste, and touch the sky
i pedal faster, a smile from ear to ear
wind blowing through my sun sparkled hair

caught up in the exhilaration
i see them in the distance
unaware of the distance between them

she lived in the clouds among the stars he built the foundation that rooted us

as i bloomed
like a broken cupboard
unhinged
they fell apart
and with broken pieces of wood encompassing me i rose tall
my head in the clouds and my feet on the ground
