They Call Me A Criminal

For years upon years,

my race has had to live in fear

not because of the deeds of our passion,

more because the color of our dark skin brought a chain reaction

Niw they want to lock all of us away,

so please listen to these words that I say

Whom was it that raped our women for over 4oo hundred years,

ignoring the sound of our young children filled with tears

Whom was it that boiled us in kettles,

letting our dark skin melt into the metal

Whom was was it that elected a President,

that commits every crime possible even some he invents

Yet because I chose to survive and refuse to hide,

society has labeled me a criminal and the message is just not subliminal
