THEY CAME, THEY CONQUERED

They Came, They Conquered.....

They came,

They conquered,

They came from many foreign shores,

They came from undecided times,

Often futures were uncertain,

Then halfway round the world they came,

To unknown times,

To unknown opportunities,

In ships of wood and of sail

Where the lonely albatross trailed

They came, they gave,

They gave of themselves,

They began,

And they began to build,

Futures in this new land,

For themselves,

And their children

And their generations forthcoming.

And still they came

To a rugged land,

A harsh country of brown earth,

Underneath Olde Southern Cross,

Where they stripped,

They ploughed the ground,

Planted, cared and harvested

Bountiful crops of wheat and barley

And still they came,

Now part of our history so,

A father, mother, daughter,

A son and many more

They had come from foreign shores,

To call Australia home.......
