They Don't Care
What an unexpected tragedy, they said
He showed no signs
He seemed so happy
He had so much to live for
She doesn’t care
She doesn’t care
He doesn’t care
They mouth the words
But I mean nothing to them
I am only a weight on their hearts
Only a faintly ridiculous specimen
If I told the truth
I would just be another weird kid
Just another dark smudge
On their happy portraits
So I slap on this mask
And with a giddy voice
I make them laugh
The way I want to
Are they so blind?
To see the things I do
And suspect nothing?
I wish I were a worse actor
So they could see through my ruse
And the mask of happiness
Over it all.
They don’t care
She doesn’t care
She doesn’t care
He doesn’t care
all they care about is religion
All she cares about is her muscly guy
They’ll move on
They’ll move on
Without a blink
Red will fade to color
Empty will fade to white
God will find his reckoning.
